In the Lugubrious Silence Of Eternal Light n'est pas juste un black metal lumineux (vous avez Déhà pour ça) ou un black metal solaire (vous pouvez tester Trhä pour ça). Mories de Jong fait un black metal... doré, étincelant, un black metal religieux sans dieux. Cet album écarquille les yeux comme une fin du monde. C'est gracieux et c'est surtout absolument unique en son genre, c'est un style à part entière ; il n'y a que lui pour ça.

Maurice de Jong fait partie de ces très rares artistes qui ont de l'or au bout des doigts : non content de révolutionner le black metal, il est aussi très bon pour pasticher des genres classiques et c'est précisément ce qu'il fait dans The Sombre. Son premier album Into The Beckoning Wilderness est un hommage plus qu'évident au doom/death metal de My Dying Bride : les death growls dominent, contrastés par du spoken word solennel, les riffs sont lourds mais construisent de belles atmosphères !

a shame "As the Golden Altar Burns" didn't make the cut on the remaster just for the sake of the *entire* original effort but I imagine there was reasoning. Genuinely some of THE most horrifying shit. from the first listen to every other time I will ever listen to it, this body of work/various cuts was, is, and will be nothing short of a total, visceral, and dare I say a most divine auditory assault.
