a shame "As the Golden Altar Burns" didn't make the cut on the remaster just for the sake of the *entire* original effort but I imagine there was reasoning. Genuinely some of THE most horrifying shit. from the first listen to every other time I will ever listen to it, this body of work/various cuts was, is, and will be nothing short of a total, visceral, and dare I say a most divine auditory assault.

Maurice de Jong fait partie de ces très rares artistes qui ont de l'or au bout des doigts : non content de révolutionner le black metal, il est aussi très bon pour pasticher des genres classiques et c'est précisément ce qu'il fait dans The Sombre. Son premier album Into The Beckoning Wilderness est un hommage plus qu'évident au doom/death metal de My Dying Bride : les death growls dominent, contrastés par du spoken word solennel, les riffs sont lourds mais construisent de belles atmosphères !
